Thirty employees from Porto Montenegro recently completed their fourth event as part of ‘Uplifting the Community’, a project aimed at being socially responsible. On June 16th, staff from Adriatic Marinas donated blood to mark World Blood Donor Day. This event took place with the assistance of the Red Cross and the Department of Tivat’s Institute for Blood Transfusion. Its aim was to raise public awareness in saving lives through blood donation.
‘Our objective is to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation. Only 2.47 percent of citizens in Montenegro contribute at present, and it is vital we increase this to 4 percent in order for our country to have a sufficient blood supply. Adriatic Marinas has helped us with this objective,’ stated transfusion specialist, Dr. Snezana Filipovic, Head of Department of the Institute for Blood Transfusion of Montenegro.
With its slogan ‘Give blood for those who donate life’, Blood Donor Day is dedicated to women who bring new life into the world, and where complications in childbirth can result in large amounts of blood loss.
As part of an ongoing project, Porto Montenegro employees have already developed a small landscaped park in Tivat, helped remove graffiti and repainted the concrete boundary wall on the city's football stadium, and generally restored the stadium in Tivat’s city park.
