A unique introduction to Montenegro's nautical history
Reflecting the area's rich maritime traditions, the Naval Heritage Collection is housed in a beautifully restored building and tells the remarkable story of the Adriatic’s maritime past. Showcasing over 300 artefacts, from Yugoslav submarines to the diaries of Montenegro's Princess Ksenija, Austro-Hungarian ship equipment and industrial machines, some of them more than 100 years old, the airy, light-filled space attracts visitors young and old.
The star attraction however, is the colossal P821 ‘Hero' submarine standing proudly across from the NHC building. After investing some 120,000 euro in the submarine's restoration, Hero opened to the public in July 2013.
The interior of this war vessel was returned to its former labour state by a restoration team, including members of the 88th submarine fleet of the former Yugoslav Navy. Eventually, a multimedia corner will also be installed, to highlight just what it was like to live onboard.
Themed exhibitions are displayed throughout the year at the NHC in addition to the permanent collection pieces. The museum is also available for private hire, offering a unique and intimate venue for parties, receptions, performances.
