The Shock of the New Mead Carney Gallery, Porto Montenegro 1 July–30 September, 2014

London’s Mead Carney opened their inaugural presentation at Porto Montenegro in July, with an exhibition of contemporary art from 1990 to the present entitled ‘The Shock Of The New’. The title references the seminal book of the same name by legendary art critic Robert Hughes, whose commentary on the social, political and economic contexts of artistic development from the 1880s to 1980s changed the way Western society thought about mod world-renowned artists such as Damien Hirst, Marc Quinn, Gerhard Richter, Richard Prince, Russell Young and Ahmed Alsoudani alongside a selection of highly acclaimed newly emerging contemporary artists from around the world, the exhibition ‘The Shock Of The New’ continues the dialogue of the development of contemporary art from 1990 to the present day.

Mead Carney Fine Art opened in June 2012 on Dover Street, London as a contemporary art gallery representing emerging and established artists. They also provide expert advisory services on evaluation, acquisition services and advice on the art markets of all categories including North American and European fine art including Old Masters, Impressionist, Modern & Contemporary art.
