The upcoming arrival of spring is always an exciting time in Montenegro, with a bustling calendar of events and festivals to experience. This year, there are three exciting celebrations to enjoy in February and March.
Mimosa Festival
The town of Herceg Novi celebrates the arrival of spring with its annual Mimosa festival. Named in honour of the mimosa flowers that blossom as winter comes to a close, the festival is so much more than these beautiful yellow flowers. The Mimosa Festival is bursting with activities and features an abundance of local delicacies and wine. One of the most popular symbols of this celebration is the freshly grilled Sardines that are cooked and sold on the streets. The Mimosa Festival begins in February and lasts for several weeks – sometimes the celebration stretches well into March. Thousands of people flock here to escape winter in the warm and evergreen Herceg Novi, surrounded by beautiful yellow blooms.

Kotor carnival
Kotor has a long tradition of carnivals and its renowned Winter Carnival takes place from 25. February until 5. March. This celebration is not just limited to a carnival, but also includes several exceptional events in towns along Boka Bay and masquerade balls. The Winter Carnival includes traditional parades of majorettes, costumes, concerts and showcases of local cuisine. The event is considered to be one of the largest entertainment programmes in Montenegro, with thousands of visitors, performers and carnival groups from all over the country and many other European destinations coming to join the festivities. One of the most significant parts of the Winter Carnival is the parade of masked participants that dance and play music in the Old Town. This Winter Carnival is a wonderful example of historic Montenegrin culture and celebrates the colourful traditions of the region.
Ljubav na filmu
A film festival that celebrates all things romance will take place from 20 – 22 February. “Budo Tomović” is part of the seventh edition of KIC’s “Ljubav na filmu”. The event is in celebration of Valentine’s Day and the audience will have the opportunity to watch a selection of the world’s most famous, romantic films, including P.S. I Love You, The Lake House and The Holiday throughout the three-day festival..
