By example of good practice, Porto Montenegro has invested over 3.5 million Euros from the beginning of the project, through donations and sponsorships to numerous sports, educational and cultural institutions.
The project enjoys especial public affection thanks to the Uplifting the Community initiative, whereby Porto Montenegro employees receive a paid day off to participate in charitable activities organised by the company itself – from decoration of children’s playgrounds and ecological initiatives, to the reconstruction of sports and school grounds.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) also covers investment in education. As representatives of the principal private investors in the town of Tivat, there is a focus on investment in quality education and promoting knowledge through various activities – intellectual capital is the most valuable capital of the local community. The goal of the company is not that the success of these projects can be statistically “measured” by outcomes, but rather through the satisfaction of investing in formal and informal education – the greatest benefit a company can give to the community in which it operates is to bring knowledge, in the hope that those same young individuals may one day get the opportunity to work and develop this knowledge. As a case example, three Montenegrin students have been awarded scholarships of € 25,000 towards International Hospitality and Service Management studies at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Croatia, based in Dubrovnik.
In addition to the aforementioned activities, the Porto Montenegro team financed the renovation of the music, art, literacy and IT departments and library toilets, as well as introducing WiFi at primary school, Drago Milović, whilst supporting many of their other activities. Support has also been given to the Drago Milović secondary school, where the English, physics, chemistry, geography and electrical engineering departments, as well as the local library, have been renovated. Porto Montenegro actively participates in supporting the youngest members of the local society from the Bambi pre-school, providing sponsorship for interactive toys and supporting the renovation of the establishment.
Among numerous other charitable activities, Porto Montenegro also sponsors workshops at the Tivat Music School, Purgatoria Theatre Festival, KK Teodo, Arsenal Rugby Club, ZOPT projects and the Tivat Children’s NGO, organising free English language courses, and much more.
